  • GREATER BANDUNG METROPOLITAN

     

    The growth of Greater Bandung Metropolitan can be traced back from the development of Bandung City as the capital of West Java Province. Later on, the fast-growing Bandung City has affected the expansion of urban characteristics to the regions it.

     

    DELINEATION

    The area of Greater Bandung Metropolitan is determined based on three criterion, namely number of inhabitant, economic activity, and built-up area.

    On 2010, the metropolitan characteristics appear in 56 districts in Bandung City, Cimahi City, Bandung Regency, Bandung Barat Regency, and Sumedang Regency. The number of inhabitant is 5,813,269 that are spread in 106,015 Ha area. Meanwhile, the built-up area covers about 25% of the total area.

    According to the projection on 2015, the delineation of Greater Bandung Metropolitan Area will reach 61 districts in the same municipalities and 9.9 million inhabitants. On 2020, the area will reach 68 districts and 11.4 million inhabitants. Finally, on 2025, the area will reach 71 districts and 12.8 million inhabitants.

    The advantages of Greater Bandung Metropolitan have a significant role in the development of the metropolitan. The advantages classified into absolute advantages, comparative advantages, and competitive advantages.

    Absolute advantages are the advantages of a metropolitan region in terms of the existence of natural resources and history that cannot be found in other regions. Absolute advantages of Greater Bandung Metropolitan are:

  • DEVELOPMENT CONCEPT

    In order to respond the issues and problems as well as optimize the regional advantages of Greater Bandung Metropolitan, WJPMDM has established the development concept of Greater Bandung Metropolitan to accelerate the development of West Java Province. The development concept of the region will be: “Greater Bandung Metropolitan as a Modern Metropolitan, based on Urban Tourism, Creative Industry, and Development of Science, Technology, and Art”.

    As a modern metropolitan, there will be modern infrastructure that serves the activity of the residents, among others:

    Large-scale vertical housing

    With the large number of populations, housing is one of the most important infrastructures to be developed in Greater Bandung Metropolitan, especially in the future when the population will grow rapidly. However, the availability of land to develop new housing is limited. Therefore, the solution is to build vertical housing to overcome the land limitation and to increase green open spaces. Each large-scale vertical housing consists of at least ten towers with each tower has at least ten storys. The fund to build the housing will be provided by Central Government, Regional Government, National and Local-Owned Company, and private sector.

    Mass transportation system

    The transportation system will connect the activities center to serve the mobility of the residents. For each transportation node, multifunctional open spaces of 5 Ha will be developed to accommodate informal sector activities, community activities, festival, parking space, etc.

    Improvement of infrastructure

    The service quality of infrastructure will be improved in order to accommodate the large number of population. The infrastructure includes clean water provision system, waste water network system, solid waste management, drainage system, telecommunication, energy distribution, etc.

    Improvement of public facilities

    The service quality of public facilities will be improved based on metropolitan standards to serve the activities of the residents. The facilities include:

    Healthcare service facility

    Education facility

    Worship facility

    Commercial and retail facility

    Tourism and recreation facility

    Hotel and restaurant facility

    Office facility

    Industrial facility

    Sport facility

    Informal sectors facility

    Creative community facility
